Description

This series consists of writs and schedules requiring the sheriff to enforce the collection of arrears outstanding on accounts formerly within the jurisdiction of the Court of Augmentations (dissolved in 1554).

The writs are directed against former ministers and receivers, farmers of lands, and tenants. Schedules attached to the writs are subdivided according to the religious house or chantry to which the lands once pertained. They are often heavily annotated. The early writs make careful reference to the authority of the various series of Augmentation Office records, citing the particular documents which show or explain the debt.
