Description

This series mainly consists of entry books of abstracts of Crown leases from the Exchequer, Pipe Office.

Those issued under the Exchequer seal date from 3 Elizabeth I to 1822, while those under the great seal are from the reigns of Elizabeth I and Charles I. There are separate series of entry books of Crown leases under each seal. There is a great deal of duplication within these volumes. This suggests that they may be the remnants of a number of series of abstracts, perhaps belonging to specific officers or offices within the Exchequer. There are also a number of indexes to Crown leases.
