This series contains the Exchequer Pipe Office declared accounts of taxes.
Declared accounts were presented orally at the Exchequer. The practice of declaring accounts was extended to ones relating to taxes by Bishop Juxon during his Treasurership between 1636 and 1641. The series contains the accounts of the receivers general in England and Wales for direct taxation granted by Parliament. The records contain details of subsidies, monthly assessments, hearth taxes, the land tax, stamp duties, taxes on offices, pensions, and estates, and taxes on luxury items, as well as accounts for the personal expenses of the receivers-general.
Various accounts have not survived for the period 1640 to 1662, but the series is mostly complete from 1662. The accounts all end about1821, when parchment copies of declared accounts were abolished.
