Folio 110: Carteret to Wich. France pretends that both Czarina and Duke of Holstein have aversion to England, and affection for her. Brummer supposedly keeps them that way. It is said Bestuzev knew nothing of the night before Czarina's intention to declare Duke of Holstein her successor and that Prince Cerkasskoi if he lived would have prevented it. Now with our only person of credit with Czarina gone, France has no doubt of success. France wants triple alliance with Sweden and Denmark. Dated Whitehall, 21 Dec 1742.
