Folio 75: Carteret to Wich. Pechlin at Stockholm devoted himself to French interests hoping for a pension from France, and a place of Lutheran Aulic Councillor by their credit with the Emperor. If Duke Administrator is refused he will promote any French Candidate to oppose the Bishop of Lubeck. French party at Stockholm in dread of a union of Councils between HM and the Czarina, which would defeat their plans the greatest blow would be the signing of our Defensive Treaty. Dated Whitehall, 7 Dec 1742.
