Description

Folio 58: Wich to Carteret. Pleased that despite previous misgivings of Czarina's intentions she now supports candidature of Duke Administrator. English concurrence would strengthen bond between England and Russia and Sweden. When Kings of France Poland and Prussia are offering their daughters and sisters in marriage to young Duke of Holstein, it is no doubt welcome to HM that Czarina proposes that one or two of the [English] princesses be placed on the northern thrones. Swedish desire for English mediation. Neuhaus has expressed to Russians and me that Emperor [Charles VII] would welcome HM's mediation between himself and Queen of Hungary. Dated Moscow, 1 Nov 1742.
