Folio 29: Carteret to Wich. News of election of Duke Administrator of Holstein makes French Party jubilant not for him, but because they are sure he will refuse and they can carry the crown for Duke of Deux Ponts. It appears to them a certainty, even though it would take a general revolution, the secret committee to be changed, the marshal and other members expelled, The King of Sweden driven to retire and the Government altered. Duke Administrator of Holstein's minister at Stockholm had promised French Ambassador there that if his master refused he would second the views of France. In return he wanted France, with the Emperor, to make him a Lutheran Aulic Councillor. Dated Whitehall, 16 Nov 1742.
