Folio 58: Wich to Carteret. Project of new treaty enclosed with some alterations as given to me by Great Chancellor. Observations on alterations. In Article 5 difference between £100,000 and 500,000 roubles is £16,000 and it seems immaterial in this context. Russia will always be readier to furnish land forces as succour rather than pay the equivalent in money. Lenth of time of treaty changed from 20 years to 15 years. All this will serve as a good foundation to continue the negotiations. Great Chancellor has exerted himself on this, and he, his brother-in-law Prince Trubetzkoi the Procurer General and old Prince Dolgorukou are the only 3 persons with any influence in Czarina's council regarding foreign affairs. Dated Moscow, 6 Aug 1742.
