Description

Folio 49: Wich to Carteret. Renewal of Czarina's pilgrimage to Troitza with de la Chetardie in her much enlarged party, which included Gersdorff. Report from Finland that Nolcken has reached Swedish army from Stockholm doubtless with Full Powers the same as General Romanzov has. Reasonable to believe that negotiation will be started but questionable in present climate if it will be on basis of Treaty of Nystadt. More advantageous conditions will be insisted on. Even though Czarina wants peace her ministry cannot advise on inglorious capitulation. It appears that de la Chetardie will suspend his departure and try his hand in negotiation between Russia and Sweden. Czarina reminded on morning of departure for monastery of our treaty and with few immaterial but other acceptable alterations has approved. Dispatch of draught treaty next week for HM's approbation. Dated Moscow, 2 Aug 1742.
