Description

Folio 204: Wich to Carteret. Mardefeld the Prussian minister came to inform me that through mediation of HM the Preliminary Articles of a Peace between the Prussian King and the Queen of Hungary had been signed and ratified. Czarina invited to acceed to this treaty. Russian ministers applaud this news, and Botta also. Await reaction of Czarina. Sedition in Moscow, now in army in Finland. Russia and Sweden may now conclude peace. De la Chetardie in declaiming against the treaty will try to induce Czarina to unite with Sweden, Denmark and France but it is thought his efforts will prove abortive. He and Lestock will meet with great opposition and the latter will expose himself to damage if he does not gradually change his conduct. Prospect of beneficial trade for Britain, Russia and Persia with news that ship, built last year at Kazan, is on Cpasian sea at Astrakan. Regular post needed between there and Moscow to facilitate duties payable by our merchants on silks in Moscow rather than in Astrakan. Dated Moscow, 28 June 1742.
