Description

Folio 143: Wich to Carteret. Journey here made agreeable by handsome apartments available at every stage. Greatest distinction shown. Best house in Moscow being prepared. Conference tomorrow with Great Chancellor, Prince Certrasskoj, concerning audience. Character of Minister Plenipotentiary most agreeable here. Mediation of France rejected. Nolcken returns to army commanded by Lewenhaupt, dissatisfied with lack of success of negotiation. de la Chetardie has not taken character of Ambassador nor had an audience. Repeated orders have gone to Field Marshal Lacy to open campaign and Russian Fleet to go out. Swedish privateers have taken several vessels including an English ship. Dated Moscow, 17 May 1742.
