Folio 101: Wich to Carteret. Still thinks my journey to Moscow necessary, but reasons for not going given. No commands received. Explicit instructions needed for conduct regarding affairs of Europe. Molken here pressing to go to Moscow. He says he has acceptable propositions and says Sweden began war in favour of Elizabeth in order to place her on throne, and hopes for some gratitude in return and future security if only desire is for sum of money to repair Wilmanstrand they may obtain peace. Exact list of Russian forces to be employed in Finland soon available. Herewith a progress of Russian troops since end of truce. Russian fleet consists of 17 well-fitted ships of the line but not navigateable lacking officers and seamen. 15 more at Archangel with 6,000 able seamen under Admiral Bredal. If these fleets could join up they could act offensively by sea and land. 130 galleys in good order, useful for sudden marches and irruptions. Preparation for war; 45 company's of Grenadiers drafted as good troops as ever seen in Europe. Dated St Petersburg, 10 April 1742.
