Folio 87: Wich to Carteret. Arrived here this afternoon. Town deserted all having gone to Moscow. Field Marshal Lacy, only remaining person of distinction, has sent officer to compliment me on my arrival. Have learnt that war with Sweden will be prosecuted with vigour and Czarina will have 80,000 regular troops in Finland. Dated St Petersburg, 27 March 1742.
