Description

Folio 42: Finch to Harrington. Wives of all exiles elect to accompany husbands. Nurse sent by Czarina to join Mengdens. Account of allowances; clothes, servants and domestic Chaplain for Field Marshal Munnich. Fate of Biron family changing for the better. Country of Wartenburg supposedly to be returned to Duke of Courland its purchases. Prince of Hesse Homburg a descendant of a princess of Courland has an eye on Courland and de la Chetardie would like it for Count de Saxe. Duke of Holstein has left Kiel and Danzig. Prince Lewis to prepare to leave here. Czarina hopes by getting Duke of Holstein into her hands, it will prevent France and Sweden playing him off against her thereafter. Abraham Petrovitz Araboff, a Negro given as a present to Peter 1st now made a Major-General, commandant at Revel by Czarina. Dated St Petersburg, 23 Jan 1742.
