Folio 20: Finch to Harrington. Negligence on my part not cause of your hearing first of news from others of great event here. Similar delays of your dispatches to here. Placard revoking all grants and graces annulled. Rumours of fire at travellers house at Riga, Prince John ill with smallpox and Duke of Holstein being seized by King of Prussia. Prince Lewis able to leave in eight days with Lillienfeld instead of Puskin, nominated for Madrid. No universal satisfaction here at change. Another revolution no surprise when Duke of Holstein arrives. Present ministers cannot long carry on without remarkable alterations. Dated St Petersburg, 12 Jan 1742.
