Folio 203: Finch to Harrington. Letters from Burnaby and Weston received. Mention of recall. Mardefeld has private audience. Podewils writes to him to say King of Prussia giving young Duke of Holstein assistance at Berlin and in the rest of his dominions as he passes through. Views of this court on this Prince uncertain. Bestuzev informs me Maryskin credentials for England signed. Naryskin's grandfather and Czarina's grandmother were brother and sister. Account of various changes in diplomatic positions. Petzold has no letters from Dresden but Keyserling has and Count Burhl inquires whether Russia would like new nomination or Lynar returned. Believe first suggestion turned down. Express from General Keith. Wished-for peace not imminent. Possibly not until France replaces Stanislaus in Poland, fixes the Count de Saxe in Courland and regulates the Swedish succession to its likeing, then with the Turks, Tartars and Persians, Russia will be at liberty to regulate its own schemes and choose her friends. Field Marshal Lacy ill. If war occurs he will be missed. Baron Osterman taken leave of. Tidings of prisoners. Dated St Petersburg, 29 Dec 1741.
