Description

Folio 143: Finch to Harrington. Speculation that accession of Elizabeth will mean a shift in Russian policy in favour of France. Feel I cannot have audience with Czarina despite de la Chetardie already having had one, until invited. Have asked to see Prince Czerkaski to arrange audience. Czarina granted permission for me to see Prince Lewis, detained for his safety. By a second manifesto the Duke and Duchess and two children together with Prince Lewis are to leave tomorrow for Germany. Suitable allowances provided. Dated St Petersburg, 28 Nov 1741.
