Folio 132: Finch to Harrington. Saxon secretary has received the Convention agreed between his master, France and Bavaria and is to discover the attitude Russia is inclined to take. He says HM is named therein. He enquires also into the tenacity of a declaration of this court that a body of men would be sent to assist the Queen of Hungary next Spring. This may have been an intrigue between General Botta and Count Golovkin coming to nothing. Grand Vizir offers Porte's mediation between Russia and Sweden. Overture from Dresden is calculated to show King of Poland's side now he has thrown himself into France's hands. France is known as sole cause of the Swedish rupture, thus France cannot offer mediation now. Internal parties here worsen. Duke attacked by Golovkin and Botta, and Great Duchess's confessor used to bring Bestuzev again into cabinet. Account of Gefrenoff and Cossacks returned from Finland Dated St Petersburg, 24 Nov 1741.
