Folio 115: Finch to Harrington. Have dispatched Geymuller with new Article and ratifications. Delays by Count Osterman complained of by Count Golovkin at beginning of negotiations, and a conclusion also opposed by him. Account of Osterman's refusal to accept present from HM and distribution of presents to others. Botta pressing for help for Queen Marie Theresa. Mardefeld having dined with Field Marshal Munnich was persuaded as that officer had maintained, that despite the Swedish war it was practicable for Russia to help Queen of Hungary provided King of Prussia could resolve his differences with her. Mardefeld then went to Count Osterman and declared that if help went to the Queen of Hungary he would sever all in his master's name, friendship with Russia. Osterman asked him to repeat for dictation all he said, but Mardefeld on reflection asked to be allowed to eat his words. Dated St Petersburg, 14 Nov 1741.
