Description

Folio 107: Finch to Harrington. New separate article signed 7 Nov. and exchanged on 9 Nov. the ratifications with Count Osterman. Ordered by Great Duchess to attend the Field Marshal's ball by 4 o'clock, the only other foreign minister being Botta. Accounts of express from Lieutenant Colonel of Hussars to Field Marshal Lacy and marriage of Prince Repnin and Countess Golovkin. Express from Kalushkin, Russian minister in Persia, that Shah Nadyr has lost approximately 25,000 men, half his troops, to an invasion of Daghestan Highlanders. Winter has set in fast, ships shut in at Kronstadt. de Swartz says that an idea which prevailed in Sweden was that Russia had a project of giving commissions to Dutch and English subjects to fit out privateers against Sweden - the States General denied knowledge of any such scheme, and directed ministers here and at Stockholm not to grant such commissions to any foreigners. Next post will draw from the Treasury 2 bills of exchange for £2,953 sterling for Jacob Wolff. Untrue that Wich's baggage is at Kronstadt Dated St Petersburg, 10 Nov 1741.
