Folio 73: Finch to Harrington. Weston's letter would have facilitated business here and my departure, if he had written immediately on Brettel's arrival in Hanover. The delay made Count Osterman conclude the dispatches were under deliberations. I told him on receipt of Weston's letter that nothing had changed, since the first instructions of HM Persian ambassador to have an audience tonight, to deliver report of Shah Nadyr's expedition to India. Princess Elizabeth shocked by his omission to take an audience and deliver personally her presents from his master. The Turkish ambassador received final conclusion of negotiations between the Porte and Russia. Domestic affairs of this country not as harmonious as could be wished. Account of action at Wilmanstrand first published in Generalissimo's name and immediately suppressed. Czar's name substituted. Regent jealous of her power. Her husband less often at Count Osterman's, who uses Grand Marshall instead as channel to convey insinuations he wishes here to receive. Count Golovkin at head of Russian party declares openly against Osterman. Count Lynar and Botta may follow Golovkin in friendship and to intrigue against Osterman. Dated St Petersburg, 13 Oct 1741.
