Folio 171: Finch to Harrington. Awaiting Count Osterman to contact me at least until I hear whether Sir Cyril Wich will arrive before 1 September: Fate of treaty put aside until whole translation can be put in front of Regent and General issimo to justify HM's conduct towards Russia. If Osterman does not want it, it will never be. Russian squadron now suddenly hauling within the port of Kronstadt and the sailors are switched from the ships to the works. Conjecture as to whether campaign is over or if it is fear or prudence or excessive precaution Peter the Great if he were here, would be much surprised. During my stay in Stockholm no alarm from there could have made much impressions here. Maybe Osterman means it to be an excuse to postpone aid to House of Austria, until other powers assistance renders theirs unhazardous to themselves and that at the eleventh hour they can share the honours. Dated St Petersburg, 4 Aug 1741.
