Folio 14: Finch to Harrington. On mentioning to Count Osterman on May 23 that de la Chetardie intended to visit Kronstadt the next day, His Excellency pretended no knowledge previously and Breverin subsequently said the ambassador's silence meant he planned to go there incognito. Great Admiral had already ordered kitchen and lodging to be prepared in manner suitable to his character. Other foreign ministers not upset by this but Botta, Lynar and myself uneasy about distinction given to crown of France and not to ours. This relates to the French ambassador's approaching audience and discourse on equal status of other ministers and presentation of letters. Dated St Petersburg 2 June 1741.
