Folio 202: Finch to Harrington. Account of difficulties of transaction brought from Dresden. 15 to 20 vessels laden with artillery, ammunition and stores have sailed for Vyborg. At a great dinner, given by Field Marshal Munnich, the foreign minister were General Botta, Counts Wilczek and Lynar, Cram and myself. After numerous toasts in large glasses the Field Marshal proposed the two co-regents, to which Lynar replied loud enough that he knew of none and said he would drink therefore to the Grand Duchess. Botta said, also loudly, that's a bit strong for 8 million; and, addressing Munnich, added that the duke of Lorraine governs no less for that, because each is his own master at home. Munnich replied that he so heard and believed completely in the toast he gave. The whole thing should be dropped and left at the bottom of the large glass. King of Prussia's offer to move as soon as Russia actually marched into his dominions, however reasonable it might appear, depends on a desired resolution, not assured, despite the hopes of the Austrian ministers that 12 or 15 regiments which are promised, will soon assemble at Pleszow. Short march to Riga. Prince Generalissimo to assemble principal generals to glean their advice on disposing of troops from Sweden and Prussia. Dated St Petersburg 12 May 1741.
