Folio 71: Finch to Harrington. Remark in last on being pressed meant Count Osterman disliked my audience with duke of Courland (folio 49). Thereafter he asked me whether everything reported on Denmark, Sweden, Prussia and Holland. Answered yes, and he said I may have answer soon. Shown paragraph of letter from Russian minister in Copenhagen, purport of which was that as soon as Titley's negotiations succeeded and Chavigny's miscarried, the Cardinal had given the latter positive instructions to form a French party at that court and secure French subsidies when English one ceases. This I had communicated at my arrival. Persian ambassador has audience of leave. Two incidents reported about French ambassador and his household. Dated St Petersburg 6 Sept 1740.
