Folio 32: Finch to Harrington. Miserable about continuous delay of treaty. Enquired of Count Osterman about progress, and told not yet laid before Czarina and that Beveren has gone for 10 days to-Revel. At my insistence that HM would be distressed at these further delays, he had violent twitches of gout and talked of king of Prussia. He told me in confidence of diet assembling before Christmas and distribution by Bestuzev of over 50,000 roubles. Difficulty of Turks in sending back Russian prisoners. Present Sultan probably will be deposed owing to incapacity to have children. Negotiation to go ahead, when unknown. Osterman not be hurried. Son born to Princess Anne. Czarina pays from her privy purse for regiment for Prince Charles of Courland. Dated 23 Aug 1740.
