Folio 137: Rondeau to Harrington. Immediate reaction to resolution of marrying the Czarina's niece Princess Elizabeth, to the prince of Bevern was that Russia hinted to Vienna the Czarina expected the Emperor would have demanded her for him. Emperor replied that hereadily agreed, but his nephew could do it himself being in situ. Awaiting Botta, acting ambassador also Crame and Keyserling, ministers to the duke of Wolfenbuttel. De Villardeau returning here as consul. Vaugrenant being replaced, as he refused to come without an additional salary this court being the most extravagant and costly. Nolcken returned to Stockholm. His wife having died there, he has to settle private affairs. His account of Russia may be disadvantageous, and may encourage the violent party in Sweden to embark on something against her, which if mad enough will infallibly draw Sweden into some misfortune. Russia would abandon everything to take revenge on Sweden. Dated StPetersburg, 21 Apr 1739.
