Folio 85: Rondeau to Harrington. Osterman still too busy to attend to our negotiation, but duke of Courland said he had read the project and thought we should assist Russia if she were attacked by Poles. Everything done to persuade him that she had nothing to fearfrom that quarter. Great preparations in hand for new liveries for the staffs of Czarina and duke of Courland. Many conjectures about marriage of princess of Mecklenburg to either prince of Bevern or duke of Courland's eldest son. If the first, then his sister must marry the other man, bu which alliance the duke's family will be so closely allied to that of Russia they will have nothing ever to fear. Cham deposed and replaced by relative by order of Porte. Dated StPetersburg, 24 Mar 1738/9.
