Folio 57: Rondeau to Harrington. News from Prince Cantemir that France a little surprised and alarmed to hear our affairs with Spain adjusted. The duke of Courland satisfied that England and Denmark would also soon be agreed, provided the affair of Steinhurst would be no hindrance. The duke thinks Sweden prevented from hurting Russia even if the French should encourage her to attack. He is glad HM so well disposed to Russia as offers of defensive alliance have been made, but he still thinks that Russia should not ask HM as there might be things asked for that HM would not care to grant. Munnich's niece Mademoiselle Wildeman, first maid of honour to the Czarina, was married to Baron Mengden, Vice President of the College of Justice. Dated StPetersburg, 17 Feb 1738/9.
