Folio 278: Rondeau to Harrington. Czarina ordered Count Osterman to tell me that Grand Vizir had written to France desiring the good offices and mediation of the French king, who answered that he would oblige whenever Emperor and Czarina required him. Czarina, pressed by Emperor, says he can accept the French king's mediation but she prefers to accept sincere friendship of HM and States General, knowing they will procure her security of her territories. My secretary taking letter to Sir Everard Fawkener at Constantinople. A quicker way of informing him of present situation than your writing from England. Dated St Petersburg 29 Nov 1737.
