Description

Folio 242: Harrington to Rondeau. Paper arrived from Czarina who desires it should be transmitted to British ambassador at Constantinople. HM sending orders for him to renew his endeavours at the Porte. Wasner, the Emperor's minister here, informed HM that France, at the request of the Porte, had offered to mediate, but the Imperial court has said that as Czarina was the principal in the war she must know this and answer it. Details of this important affair must be imparted to HM Russia should be discouraged from listening to such mediation, considering that France is so ill-disposed towards her. Dated Whitehall, 9 Dec 1737.
