Folio 234: Rondeau to Harrington. Manifesto is being drawn up here to convince the world that it was not Russia's fault that the war was not brought to an end at Nemirow. Count Osterman also asked if I would send a copy of this paper to Sir Everard Fawkener so thathe could find out the feelings of the Porte, since if he reported his findings to me matters might be resolved. A renewed negotiation under the mediation of HM and the States General would be willingly agreed to. News that Turks and Tartars are marching to besiege Okzakow, which, if true, means they will take it this winter. Garrison of 12,000 cannot be relieved before May. This court would be mortified if Okzakow taken after so many lives lost to gain it. Dated St Petersburg 5 Nov 1737.
