Folio 162: Rondeau to Harrington. Turks opposed suggestion of Tartar Cham giving battle to the Russians: if he were beaten he would have to submit to the Czarina, whereupon the Porte would lose him forever. Account of sea misfortune. News from Nemirow of disturbances at Constantinople, to abate which several great men were put to death and others banished. Grand Vizir deposed and sent to island of Negropont [Euboea], but his estates not confiscated. Seraskier of Bender is now Grand Vizir. As Turks have little to fear from the Russians now, they may hold out a little longer. Dated St Petersburg 16 Aug 1737.
