Description

Folio 102: Forbes and Rondeau to Harrington. Czarina wishes HM to continue good offices because Russian minister in Sweden says that France had made substantial offers to Sweden who, wishing to listen, had decided to convene an extraordinary Diet in May. Counts Osterman and Biron want Finch, British minister in Stockholm, to befriend Russian minister in Stockholm in order to prevent this alliance. Our treaty of commerce still talked of, perhaps only a pretence to drop it by degrees. Things in Poland not coming to a head. King's party not increasing. He is not as profligate to gain friends as Stanislaus. Dated St Petersburg 9 Mar 1733/4.
