Folio 37: Forbes and Rondeau to Harrington. Count Osterman pressed Forbes most earnestly about forming alliance with Russia. His vehemence showed dissatisfaction with the courts of Vienna and Saxony, a vast uneasiness with duration and expense of engagements in Poland. Fear of French squadron and transports coming to relieve Danzig. Eventually concluded he was unable to rely on anyone but Russians themselves. We reminded him of HM's sentiments on treaty of alliance and desired to know if this put an end to our treaty of commerce. By no means, was the answer. Field-Marshal Munnich set out secretly from here to command army in Poland and direct siege of Danzig. Dated St Petersburg 16 Feb 1733/4.
