Folio 1: Forbes and Rondeau to Harrington. Baron Mardefeld departed secretly for Berlin Dec. 31. Count Biron says Czarina spoke to him the day before he left telling him of her resolve to support the elector of Saxony's claim to Poland and wanted to see kings of Poland and Prussia good friends. She wished to cultivate the friendship of king of Prussia and, if he had similar regard for her, he would, 1. renounce Stanislaus and acknowledge Augustus, 2. send Emperor 10,000 men, 3. withdraw his troops from Mecklenburg. Count Osterman, as he interpreted for Czarina, seemed affronted and might have altered these requests if count Biron was not present. Intercepted correspondence from duke of Mecklenburg mentioned. Copies obtained. Dated St Petersburg 5 Jan 1733/4.
