Folio 44: Rondeau to Harrington. Account of numbers and magnificence of Embassy going to Warsaw with Count Löwenwolde Ambassador Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary. Nobility of Poland forming parties. Families Potocki and Chatourinsky, previously enemies,now reconciled. They are attempting to set King Stanislaus on the throne. Prince Lubomirsky immediately returned to Cracow, where he is forming a Confederacy and has published a manifesto to get his friends to join him and prevent King Stanislaus, or a foreign Prince from being elected King of Poland. Russia impatient to know His Majesty's views on the Polish question. 40,000 troops, now ordered by Czarina to be ready to march into Poland if a Prince were elected who was not agreeable to this court or Vienna. Lipsky coming to notify death of King of Poland. Also Count Lynar from Elector of Saxony. Thought Elector wishes him to persuade this Court to choose him as King of Poland. Dated St Petersburg, 13 Mar 1733.
