Description

Folio 123: Rondeau to Townshend. Insinuations from Magnan, which duke of Liria prevented from being openly spoken. He has since been allowed audience with Czarina through Osterman. If allies of Seville were obliged to make war in Italy, the Grand Duke of Tuscany, and not the Emperor nor the Empire, would be the object of attack. 6000 Spaniards were designed for his territories and the French king, not knowing the promises made with the Emperor by this court, had informed the Czarina of his resentment if she should assist with any troops. Count Osterman amazed at this declaration. Nothing was insinuated to Count Golovkin, their ambassador in Paris The French king knew the widespread promises that were made by Russia with Vienna and the Czarina would comply if required and still maintain good harmony with France, as shown by her predecessors. Russia had not enquired why France had made new deals at Seville and the Czarina was not minded to take orders from any other Monarch, but to keep strictly to her plans. Reported death of Grand Seigneur, not true. Dated Moscow, 8 June 1730.
