Folio 97: Rondeau to Townshend. Orders to duke of Liria to stay until his court knows what Vienna decides to do. Emperor's ministers here, since the reconciliation, say that a firm peace would soon be settled in Europe. None more pleased than Russia for fear that Vienna will insist on them making good their promises which they would be sorry to do. Hope that no more sent to Siberia. Osterman wants my company but I await instructions on what to say. Russia wants to renew longstanding friendship with Great Britain which will be more useful to them, than with the Emperor who will be troublesome, if they join in his quarrels. Bondé and Tessine, ministers here from duke of Holstein, ordered to persuade Czarina to allow bishop of Lubeck to marry daughter of duchess of Mecklenburg, presumed heir to this crown. Will never be consented to after experience of first alliance with Holstein. Dated Moscow, 27 Apr 1730.
