Folio 27: Rondeau to Townshend. No plans agreed for alterations to government. Gentlemen here, used to obeying blindly an absolute monarch, have no ideas of true limited government. Great and lesser nobility each want their way. Her Majesty arrived at Fscasweatzkoy where she declared herself colonel-in-chief of regiment and served drink to the officers and men personally, endearing herself to them. Council and Senate met her there, presenting her with the Order of St. Andrew. Many domestic broils will be occasioned by these affairs and no concern will be given to any occurences abroad. Czar buried on 11 Feb. and seems almost forgotten already. Urgent hopes that duke of Liria is not recalled now as he knows the entire Russian nobility and would be a great help to our new alliance if the Emperor does not accede to the treaty of Seville. Dated Moscow, 16 Feb 1729.
