Folio 84: Ward to [Townshend]. Entire meeting with Osterman taken up firstly by him re-counting past actions with Great Britain, and then my reminding him that I was sent here to care for trade. I told him of several innovations and high taxes, and he owned he wasno master of this subject, but would gladly promote trade even though I was not publicly acknowledged by Czar as Consul General. If HM wishes to promote trade with Russia this is the time to do so. Dated Moscow, 27 Mar 1729.
