Folio 71: Rondeau to Townshend. Reminders of various consuls in Russia and need of settled friendship to consolidate trade in cloth etc. The Prussians' selling cloth to clothe the Russian army is very prejudicial to Great Britain. This court resolved to keep up their galley fleet of which an exact list enclosed. Those over 3 years old are rotten or unfit for service. Burial of Princess Nathalia delayed, because precedence of mourners in procession disputed. Duke of Liria spends prodigiously, pleasing both Czar and common people Baron Osterman appears dangerously sick. Czar reported to be setting out for Ukraine, but some insinuate he comes here. Eldest Naryskin in disgrace. Late Czar's mother was a Naryskin. Company planned at Moscow to trade with Spain. To encourage subscribers they are given rank of brigadiers. In any other country, very strange. Dated St Petersburg, 10 Feb 1729.
