Folio 248: Jefferyes to Craggs. The Czar leaves the fleet near Samland. on course to Abo and Helsingfors, the ships of war to be brought to Revel, by Rear-Admiral Civers. Gollovin has also arrived from Copenhagen in 6 days, having seen the British squadron and Swedish fleet together near Bornholm, which much alarmed this town as there is news here of peace concluded between Britain and Sweden. A few days later, with much rumour, consternation spread when a fleet of men of war advanced from the West during a hazy evening and 3 guns were fired in salute without response. Fears increased and general alarm continued until morning, when Russian colours appeared and the fleet entered port, some ships lying in readiness for a visit from the British and Swedish fleets. The Czar's galleys with 4000 men are to winter at Novgorod. The ships of war will stay here for next spring's embarkation of the same regiments. Dated Revel, 27 Aug 1719.
