Description

Folio 232: Jefferyes to Craggs. The Russians altered their intention of a straightforward attack on Sweden to ravaging, burning and destroying the coasts. The Czar has ordered general rendezvous of ships and galleys on the 24th inst. near Aland and is expected at St.Petersburg towards the beginning of September. It is thought the Swedes have already suffered from the Russians all the cruelty invented and will be inspired with thoughts of revenge rather than inclination to peace. The vessel mentioned in my last dispatch was wrongly detained and is now released. Satisfaction is promised for damages, but as the sailors are all at sea in the Czar's fleet I cannot obtain their liberty till it returns. Dated Revel, 13 Aug 1719.
