Description

Folio 210: Jefferyes to Craggs. The Czar intends to leave Hangut for Abo by land. Report of attacks to be made at Uhma, Udwikswald, and even Stockholm; also at Calmar. So remote a place from here can hardly be attacked unknown to Denmark but Westphal, the Danish envoy denies knowledge. Little transpires at Aland the more the Czar insists on retaining Liefland, Eastland, Ingermanland, Karelia, Savolax and Kexholm. Why should it be supposed that Sweden should give up such considerable provinces unless beaten in combat? The Russian settlers in Sweden have left and are at Konigsberg. The Czar sends passports and assurances for the return of their estates if they take an oath of allegiance to him. It is supposed that the abandonment of these lands is an indication that the Swedes have small hope of recovering them. Puskin, returned from the Danish court, is here en route to see the Czar to report negotiations. Hears that the Czar has given orders to the Court of Admiralty that no ships, English or Dutch, shall be unladen; which is a sign that he intends to set them at liberty. Dated Revel, 2 July 1719.
