Folio 202: Jefferyes to Craggs. In addition to information given in his letter of 8 June [ff.198-199], the rendezvous of all vessels will at Abo or at a port in Finland named Hangut. It is certain that Baron Lillienstadt had arrived at Aland, but this court is amazed at the propositions he has made to the Russians, namely, the return of all conquests and that Lake Ladoga should be the boundary and barrier between the 2 countries on this side. It is for that reason, that the Swedish prisoners begin to be maltreated, guarded more tightly than before and threatened with Siberia. The arrival of HM at Hanover and his sending of a large squadron to the Baltic is so embarrassing this court that they scarce know what to do. That is why they have sent Tolstoy to Prussia, to thwart as best they can the designs claimed here to be formed against the Czar; who, in the meantime, is raiding Sweden to force a peace. The Prussian minister, Metch, who lastly was sent to Revel, was afterwards obliged to come here and report to the Czar that the Swedes had assembled a large corps of regular troops a few leagues from Stockholm, giving the Czar and his ministers something to think about. The Czar ordered Vice-Admiral Cruetz to distribute during his absence to the crews of the vessels taken and brought here, money for their upkeep, so that they could not leave, but enough to live on during their stay. The Swedes have given complete freedom of trade to the Dutch in all places conquered by the Czar. Evidently the Czar follows this example, but I know not if this liberty extends to other nations. Stamke, having his passport from this court, is planning his journey to Germany. Metch had to leave St.Petersburg on the 11th to return to Berlin. Dated Narva, 13 June 1719. French.
