Folio 198: Jefferyes to Craggs. Only fresh news is that Privy Councillor Tolstoy left for Berlin from here yesterday in great haste, with post horses ordered at all stages through Liefland and Courland. The Czar is windbound at Kronslot. Apraxin commands the land forces. The Czar commands the fleet and when he has joined the 2 squadrons from Kronslot and Revel together they will try the attack he designed to make in Sweden; probably on the coast opposite Aland with about 30,000 men, certainly more than the Swedes and of superior training. If the king of Denmark would block up Carlscrona, and prevent the Swedish fleet from running out, the Czar would assist by sending men-of-war and would give his guarantee for Pomerania, Rugen and Sleswig and would not desist till they were yielded up to Denmark by Sweden. I heard that Denmark was unable to accept this arrangement as she would only act in concert with the British squadron. Dilatory attention to English matters and the men brought up by the Czar's cruisers. I have sent money, for they are allowed nothing but meal and water. Dated StPetersburg, 8 June 1719.
