Folio 155: Jefferyes to Stanhope. Confirmation of account [f.149] of a separate peace with Sweden. Also information about decisions of this court and Prussia to invade Bremen and Verden, the part of Pomerania now possessed by Denmark, and the Isle of Rugen. Great preparations here for the coming campaign give impressions of wider activities than against Sweden only, the differences between this court and Vienna give belief that they are intended against the Emperor - nothing confirmed in this. Usual prudence and wisdom of the Czar unlikely to be set aside for war with the Triple Alliance before peace is secured with Sweden. If this could be achieved and the troubles between the Emperor and Spain continue and Turkey also renews war with the Emperor, the Czar no doubt would be induced to come into it, as the animosity between here and Vienna is so great, with Spanish emissaries continually adding fuel to the fire. Maybe there are other princes, apart from the late king of Sweden, who like having enemies. Dated StPetersburg, 8 May 1719.
