Folio 74: Jefferyes to Stanhope. No news in the absence of the court. The Czar not fully recovered on arrival in Olonitz. Osterman, second plenipotentiary at the congress at Aland, is still here. Continuation of the congress is hoped for because of the inclination of the regency of Sweden for peace with all its enemies. Is informed that the Russian army in Finland is ready to march, though whether to work on the canal along Ladoga, or to march against the Poles, with whom the Czar is angry because of the triple alliance lately concluded at Vienna, is unknown. Express news from Courland that the estates are assembled there. The widow of Lapogin, broken on the wheel for conspiracy, has committed suicide. Dated St Petersburg, 6 Feb 1718/9.
