Folio 48: Jefferyes to Tilson. Being yet a stranger here I cannot give a tolerable account of it, when everything is under ice and snow, and there is risk of losing one's nose if put out of doors. Please interecede with Lord Stanhope, a traveller himself, to pay me my expenses of the journey here - 500 German miles, at the worst season. Dated St Petersburg, 22 Jan 1718/9.
